Obituary of Paul R. Lareau

Paul Lareau passed away on Saturday, May 29, 2021. He was born January 2, 1939 in Worcester, MA. He was the son of the late Blanche Lareau and Roland Lareau.

Paul proudly served in the United States Navy for twenty years, retiring as a Senior Chief Petty Officer in May 1977. Paul was also an active member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church since 1979, and especially cherished the many wonderful relationships that he was blessed to have been able to form during his work with the Men’s Club. After graduating from The Citadel in 1979, Paul moved with his family to Chapin, and he was fortunate to connect with so many people through his work as a teacher, wrestling and football coach, and mentor at Chapin Elementary School and Chapin High School.

Paul is reunited with Betty, his loving wife with whom he shared 47 beautiful years of marriage. He is survived by two sons, Joe (Christina) of Leesburg, VA and Jon (Michele) of Milwaukee, WI; his sisters, JoAnn Payne of Moncks Corner, SC, and Annette White of Ferndale, WA; his brother-in-law, Donnie Mikus of Chapmanville, WV, and numerous nieces and nephews, especially Christina Clark, Dennis and Dan White, Danette Ivie, Laura Mikus Rein and Anne Elizabeth Clark. He was dearly loved by his grandchildren, Kaitlynn Stone, Jayson Bollinger, Jonna Lareau, and Jacob Lareau.

Paul was an active volunteer for many years at the We Care Center in Chapin. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to We Care Center Chapin Interfaith, 1800 Chapin Road, Chapin, SC 29063 or online at chapinwecare.org.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, June 4, 2021 at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church with interment to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 3, 2021 at the church. The service may be viewed via livestream on Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Chapin Chapel’s Facebook page.
