James "Harry" Beverly Harrison, Jr.

Post by Board Admin »

Elberton, Georgia
August 27, 1938 - August 12, 2022

Mr. James Beverly Harrison Jr., J.B., Harry, Pop, Daddy, Daddy Rabbit, shuffled from this mortal coil, Friday, August 12, 2022 to begin his eternal journey to infinity and beyond.

J.B. arrived on this 3rd rock from the sun, August 27, 1938, first born bouncing baby boy of James B. Harrison Sr. (Beb) and Lizie Lou McCarty Harrison. Three subsequent and relished siblings followed, Judy Harrison Paul (late wife of Broughton Paul) Patricia Harrison Patterson (wife of the late Bobby Patterson) and William Mac Harrison (husband of Yvonne Pearce Harrison).

After graduating Oglethorpe County Highschool in 1956, J.B. joined Uncle Sam's Navy. He served his country with enthusiasm, passion and pride for 20 years as asubmarine sailor, serving in the field of both nuclear and electrical engineering, retiring Senior Chief Petty Officer, E.T.C.S. in 1976. He spent close to 4 years submerged in the deep depths of the ocean, in serving to protect our country. His time in the service were some of the greatest and rewarding years of his life. It allowed him to travel both the United States and the world, learning new and cutting edge technology, he otherwise wouldn't have had the opportunity to experience. He throughly enjoyed every moment of his military service!

J.B. married his beloved wife ,Rachel Ann Hendrix Harrison, in 1961. The following year they perpetuated the species and welcomed the first of their 2 daughters, Tracey Renaee Harrison Crawford ( fondly referred to as #1) , (late wife of Micheal S. Crawford), while stationed in Massachusetts. Seven years later they welcomed second daughter, Lizanne Harrison Huff (referred to as #2 or Lucy)( wife of Mitchell W. Huff), while stationed in Connecticut. Two bits of knowledge he gave them both before they set out on their own were, "Always remember you have a home to come home to." and " No matter how bad things seem don't worry, they can't eat you." This knowledge gave them both roots and wings, as well as invaluable security and faith.

After retiring from the Navy, J.B. moved his family back home to Lexington, Georgia. He was employed by Certain-Teed Fiberglass Corporation from 1976 to 2002 , beginning as maintenance supervisor and retiring as Senior Project Engineer. In 1991 he helped deliver his one and only, cherished grandchild, Dane MichaelHarrison Crawford (husband of Kimberly Bryant Crawford) And in 2019 was overjoyed to expand his heritage, with adored Great granddaughter, Blaire Carzana Crawford. Although he enjoyed his travels, that took him coast to coast and countries, such as Scotland and Spain, he enjoyed the peaceful tranquility of rural living, and loved no place more than "the hill", as he referred to his home place in the Wesley Chapel Road community.

J.B. was the last living descendant to still be living on the original family homestead property with the sir name " Harrison", since original descendant Robert Harrison moved to Oglethorpe County in 1831 from Virginia. J.B. walked very much to his own beat. His dry wit and unusual cander made him all the more charming. He had many talents and hobbies such as woodworking and oil painting. Author of two published books, " Killer" and " Windows, A Concept of Life" , were just a few of his never ending endeavors to achieve things he set his mind to do.

His extraordinary, brilliant brain has been donated to further medical research in the area of the condition Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, which both he and his father suffered from. The opportunity to further medical science excited and thrilled his soul. Energy can not be created nor destroyed, it can merely change forms, so may his great energy and beautiful mind be on the journey beyond his greatest imagination. May his average 2.5 on the Richter scale reach moment magnitude of 1000+. As he travels through this "window" may he finally be in total and complete balance with his surroundings. Comprehending and enjoying the magnificent, vast beauty of all the Creator's splendor and knowledge. He often said he would never live to be an " old man" and everything past 70 is all gravy!". He achieved "old man" status and enjoyed almost 14 amazing years of gravy! You will forever be deeply missed, but yours was a life lived your way and lived well and your legacy will carry on. God speed to the glorious, eternal, great beyond, until we meet again.

A true celebration of J.B.'s life will be held August 20th at The Crawford Depot-1158 Athens Road, Crawford, GA 30630. Please come extremely casual, comfortable and ready to celebrate his life well spent, per his wishes. Informal visitation begins at 3p.m. Life celebration begins at 4p.m. followed by a shared meal, music and dancing. Please feel free to come join his celebration at any point.
