2021 REUNION PLANNING

Post by ELT627 »

We are trying to develop some times and location here in the Houston area for the reunion. It is a difficult location because of prices and time.
So some questions if you would please consider them and submit your suggestions.
What time of year would you like to see the reunion? Keep in mind that April thru September are very busy in this area. Also those are the highest hotel rate times. The hottest months are generally late May thru September.

So feel free to voice your opinions
I will request that our webmaster send this out as a general inquiry to all members.
thanks

Hello. We personally don't have a problem with Feb, Mar, or Oct. It may be nice to get out of the cold for Feb, or Mar. We live just outside of Detroit. The better rates and a hotel that may be willing to do more for less is attractive. It may give our host some leverage by booking ahead or after "the season".

We also do not have a problem with winter time to get away from the cold. We do have a terrible time with heat when the temp gets into the 90's.

Nov thru jan best for us yankees. Too cold in Jan in northern illinois. Plus the temperature down there is more moderate in Jan

I'd vote for the early part of the year. The Thanksgiving/Christmas season is already busy for us.

the Elissa will certainly be on the Itinerary. But she is not wooden hulled, in fact she is a riveted hull. There is also a museum and a video that is shown at the Elissa.
As far as Galveston goes we have to concern ourselves with the number of yearly events that they have down there. For instants Christmas time would never be good because they have Dickens on the strand, and other things going on. I’ve also got to find out what time of year they have a huge motorcycle thing down there, because number one you can’t get on and off the island and number two you can’t find any place to stay.

I would recommend April (late) or early October. Take into consideration hurricane season

Someone sent an email, asking why we were considering this area. The answer is rather simple. Because of our rules for reunions it must be held someplace Where there is a shipmate who is willing to do the work to put it on. There was only one offer and that was mine to put it on in Houston. Personally I think it’s a good location, we have a Submarine and a destroyer to visit. We also have the tall ship Elissa, We have the Johnson space Center, we have moody gardens and the three pyramids. For those who like fun we have the pleasure pier, we have kemah, we have lots of good restaurants. We also have a World War II airplane museum, and in Houston we have all sorts of museums and lots of other things. One of the big things I had hoped to do what is the battleship Texas, unfortunately it is shortly to be removed and taken to a shipyard for repair and will not be available. There is also a drilling platform museum that can be visited.

The winter months sound like a good deal for Laura and I. After the new year is the best

I would try first two weeks of November (no earlier due to Hurricanes), February or March (to skip the Holidays).
