2008 USS James Madison Mini-Meeting At the USSVI in Ft. Wort

2008 USS James Madison Mini-Meeting
At the USSVI in Ft. Worth, TX

The meeting was opened at 10 AM, on Friday, Sept. 5th, 2008, by President Fred Huwe.

In attendance were Fred Huwe (Pres.), Gil Raynor (VP), Charline Huwe (Secretary), Bill Andrea (Historian), Bob & Sue Thompson, Len & Dawn Reneau, Fred Maphis, Tim Davis, Jim & Barbara Smith and George Winston Smith.

NOTE: THE DATE HAS CHANGED The date of the next reunion was set for July 8, 2009 thru July 12, 2009.

The hotel chosen was the Silverdale Beach Hotel, in Silverdale, WA. Of the three hotels contacted, the Silverdale had more to offer, at less expense, and is frequently used for Navy reunions.

The menu options were discussed and the two entrees chosen were Prime Rib and Mariner Chicken Breast.

(The USS Lafayette may have their reunion immediately following ours and there was discussion of this possibly helping us both out financially.)

Transportation to the events could be by bus or ride sharing by those with vehicles available. This will be decided at a later date, when more information about buses are available.

It was brought up that all Madison sailors should join our website, in order to keep up with reunion info, etc.

Reunion information will be placed in all pertinent publications, as well as the end of the year mail-out to all Madison sailors for which we have an address.

Start considering who you would like to see as your officers and go to the site and post nominations beginning in January of 2009. More on this later.

Due to the timeliness of receiving Membership cards and the ability to track new members and reunion attendees, the checks and sign-ups will be sent to the secretary, Charline Huwe, with the checks then being forwarded to the treasurer, Roger Schmitt.

The meeting was closed at 10:40 AM.

Recorded by Charline Huwe, Assoc. Secretary

Made my Flight Reservations for the 2009 reunion

If you haven't made your reservations yet, check with your airline of choice. With oil down, and people cutting back on travel, many of the airlines are offering good discounts if you plan your travel early. Don't wait until the last minute to get your tickets. Looking forward to seeing a lot of you there.
