40 feet of rope

Post by KellyJoeRay »

This was actually the first song I ever wrote or had a hand in writing...It launched my career as a poet and song writer...It was also a song that I wrote with Clint Green a bud from Sub school that I stayed in touch with for years...Sadly I have lost touch with him...It's in a bluegrass style...We called it "Acid Bluegrass" at the time...because it was drug related...This was about several guys who got busted on a boat for smoking weed...I can't remember which boat maybe the Daniel Boone all I remember was it was a bunch of "A" gangers like me...

40 FEET OF ROPE

Climbing old mount Everest...Way up in the sky...
Stranded on a little ledge...God knows I'm so high...
I had lots of rope an hour ago...but climbing up I broke it...
Well I would have had a whole lot more...
But I met some friends and we smoked it...

I had 40 feet of rope...
40 Feet of rope...
I hade 40 feet of rope...
But I smoked it...

Well, driving down a country road...
Trucking late at night...
I was turning to the left...
When the road turned to the right...
Well I ran my car into a ditch and I called a truck to tow it...
He said "I lost my chain the other day, and I had some rope but I smoked it"...

He had 40 feet of rope...
40 Feet of rope...
He hade 40 feet of rope...
But he smoked it...

So let this be a lesson son...
Whenever you get dry...
You can always smoke a bunch of rope...
And it will get you high...
But if your luck is as bad as mine...
It's not worth all the choking...
'Cause who knows there may come a time...you wish you never smoked it...

I had 40 feet of rope...
40 feet of rope...
I had 40 feet of rope but I smoked it...
