David Michael Roller

Post by Board Admin »

David Michael Roller was born August 31, 1949 the son of Frank and Cecila (Friedt) Roller in Dickinson, ND. He was the seventh of nine children and the first to be born in a hospital. He grew up on the family farm and attended St. Mary's Catholic school in New England, ND graduating in 1967. He enlisted in the Navy in 1969 and went to submarine school to become a sonar tech. It was there he met Don Evans and went home with him on a weekend pass. As a result he met his future wife Debbie Bye, Don's cousin, and after 3 years of long distance calls and letters they were married on July 15, 1972. He served on a diesel sub out of Key West and nuclear sub out of Charleston, SC. He was honorably discharged in 1974 and moved to Mesa, AZ. He started working for Fry's Food Store as an apprentice butcher. His first son Douglas Scott was born soon after, followed by his daughter Kimberly in 1976. When the country boy in him surfaced, he moved to Gilbert to a one acre farm. Shortly after this a second son, Robert was born. He truly enjoyed his work as a butcher, helping customers and working with fellow employees. He helped coach his children's sports teams and was pretty passionate as a spectator. He loved being with his family and his home became the gathering place for family get-togethers. He retired in 2011 and continued his pursuit of the winning lottery ticket, how to get the most for his money with Fry's fuel points and spending time with his grandchildren. His Catholic faith was who he was, caring, kind and loving and was always looking after those he loved. He was an amazing man, son, brother, husband, father and friend. He will be remembered with love.
