Watkinsville - A native of Lubbock, Texas, Mr. Lemons was the son of the late Floyd Franklin and Lois Knapp Lemons. Mr. Lemons served on many ships including the USS James Madison (SSBN-627) in the United States Navy and retired as a Senior Chief Electronic Technician (Submarine Specialist). He received his Master's Degree in Education and worked as an Assistant Professor and Director of Human Resources at State Technical Institute in Memphis TN, and was currently working at the Center for Service Support (CSS), Athens as the Director of Technical Support. Mr. Lemons helped create and launch the Navy's Center for Service Support (CSS). Today 1 in 8 Navy enlisted personnel is directly touched by his efforts to improve Navy Training. Prior to his work at the Center for Service Support, Mr. Lemons worked as the Navy Supply Corps School Athens Curriculum Standards Officer. Through his work at the Navy School he was considered one of the Navy's experts in Navy Officer and Enlisted Training. Mr. Lemons loved to share his knowledge to help others meet their full potential. Mr. Lemons was a Champion Sharpshooter with a pistol and rifle and competed on the United States Navy Team. He was a Sunday School Teacher at the Salvation Army. Mr. Lemons was a member of Athens Rock and Gem Club and Living Word Baptist Church. Mr. Lemons was a loving, generous person and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife; Helena Lemons of Watkinsville, GA, son; Richard Fones of Atlanta, GA, daughter and son-in-law; Karla and Zane Summers of Watkinsville, GA, Brothers; Jim Lemons and wife Thelma of Meridian, TX, Bob Lemons and wife Jean of Amarillo, TX, Grandchildren; Danielle, Autumn and Adrian Summers of Watkinsville, GA, and nieces and nephews in Texas, Florida, West Virginia, and Qatar.
Funeral services will be 11 AM Monday, May 15, 2006 at Bernstein Funeral Home with the Revs. Terry L. Stutes and George Price officiating. Interment will be at Evergreen Memorial Park. Family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Sunday at Bernstein Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Mark Reinhard, Dale Bogardus, George Mayhew, Jay Savage, Zane Summers, and Richard Fones. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Lemons and Jim Lemons.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Cancer Society, 1684 Barnett Shoals Road, Athens, GA 30605 or to St. Mary's Hospice, P.O. Box 6588, Athens, GA 30604.
