Retired Commander Gordon Calvert Lannou, Jr. (US NAVY), 71, was born on May 17, 1945 and passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 in a local care center. Commander Lannou was born in Baytown, TX and was the son of the late Gordon C. Lannou, Sr. and Viola Valentine Lannou. He was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School, received a Bachelors of Science from the University of Texas at Austin, and a Masters of Science from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA.

Commander Lannou retired from the US Navy with 28 years of service that began in September of 1966 and ended upon his retirement in May of 1994. He served on numerous Navy vessels which included the USS James Madison, USS Von Steuben, USS Tecumseh, USS Kittiwake, and the USS Petrel.
After retiring from the US Navy, he continued working after his retirement with CSX Railroad and Safetran. He enjoyed playing tennis, fishing, boating, and riding his Harley motorcyle.

Commander Lannou is survived by his 3 children: Michelle S. Lannou of Charleston, SC, Christopher G. Lannou and wife Tara of Summerville, SC, and John D. Lannou and wife Kim of Wilmington, NC; sister: Mary Sitarski and husband Frank of Baytown, TX; mother of his children: Linda Lannou of Summerville, SC; grandchildren: Caroline Lannou, Grayson Lannou, Kaydence Lannou, Declan Lannou, Connor Lannou and Claire Lannou and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Graveside funeral services with Military Honors will be held at 2:30 PM on Monday, January 9, 2017 at Jacksonville National Cemetery (Gate #2) with Pastor Jeff Smith officiating. Peeples Family Funeral Homes, Jacksonville , Florida, is serving the Lannou family (www.pffh.com). In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association.
