PERKINS, Thomas Harper Thomas Harper Perkins was born on March 21, 1951, in McAllen, Texas, and peacefully passed away on May 19, 2017, at Baptist Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida. Harper is the 1st son of Aileen Flack and the late Steve Perkins. He leaves behind an older sister Paula Perkins and two younger siblings Wayne and Ida Perkins. After he graduated from W.T. White High School in 1970, Harper joined the United States navy on August 27, 1971. He had the pleasure of serving our country while touring the world visiting places such as: Scotland, United Kingdom, Subic Bay, Phillipines, and New London, CT, to name a few. He traveled to 7 different countries and over 13 cities serving as an MS aboard the following Submarines: USS Los Alamos, USS Little Rock, USS James Madison, USS Will Rogers, and the USS West Virginia. After 21 years of service, he retired from the US Navy on September 20, 1992. Once retired from the US Navy, Harper began a teaching career with the Duval County School System in the field of culinary arts. During his time as a teacher, Harper received "Teacher of the Year" and retired after 20+ years with the school system. Harper is survived by his two children Michael and Cheryl Perkins, his loving friends May Johnstone and Ronda Davis. He is preceded in death by his best friend Winfred Davis, his shipmates Reny Obispo and Dan Barker, and his dog Zack.
